French-German Cooperation
In response to a joint call of the French and German research foundations ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) and DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) we applied for a project on a general analysis of modifications of the Maxwell equations, that is, the equations governing all electromagnetic phenomena like light propagation. This project has been approved now and is planned to start in March 2023. In this project fundamental or designed modifications of the Maxwell equations like non-linear, non-local, or non-homogenous modifications will be studied regarding excperimental consequences like wave propagation, cavity electrodynamics, the spectral structure of atoms, or the Equivalence Principle. Such modifications may occur in particularly designed metamaterials and and are suggested as small modifications by quantum gravity approaches. The results might be of relevance for future practical applications. This is a collaboration between the University of Orleans and the University of Bremen.
